Executive Leadership Team

María Eugenia Muguerza is our Operations Leader and four years previous to that, was Talent Leader for Spain. Working for Liberty Seguros in Spain for over 20 years, María Eugenia believes that employees and their values are the most crucial part of the company. 

Before becoming a member of the Management Team, María Eugenia held several roles across the organisation, including Director of Customer Service Area and was also responsible for the Direct Services Centres.

Originally from Bilbao, María Eugenia has worked in Barcelona and Madrid and so knows many of the employees in Liberty Seguros, and is keen to get to know the additional teams in Portugal, Ireland and Northern Ireland.

María Eugenia enjoys cycling, travelling, good food, and spending time with her friends and family.

John is the European Talent Leader at Liberty and is responsible for all talent services across Ireland, Northern Ireland, Spain and Portugal. 

Originally from Glasgow, Scotland, John has been with the company for 17 years. Before moving to the Human Resources team in 2004, John has held senior management positions in the Finance and Claim Functions.

Recently, John was the Director for Global Retail Markets West in the Global Transformation Office and before joining the company, John held several management roles in the U.K. for Scottish Power, Ford Motor Group, and Kalamazoo International.

Jesús manages the commercialisation of our products in our Sales and Distribution team through a multi-brand perspective: Liberty Insurance in Ireland, and Liberty Seguros in Portugal and Spain, Génesis in Spain and Portugal and Regal in Spain.

Jesús has a background in Industrial Engineering and Technical Architecture, as well as an Executive MBA from the Instituto de Empresa. He is currently studying the PADE program (Senior Management Program) at IESE Business School. Prior to joining Liberty, Jesús was involved with the Executive Team at FedEx where he managed operations, sales and client relations from various countries such as France, Spain, and Portugal. Jesús has also worked previously as the Business Director of Telefónica in Spain and Latin America, and as the Services Manager at Dragados. 

Jesús enjoys spending time with his family and the outdoors and likes to take part in local races when travelling.

Antonio Pepín is Liberty Seguros’ Chief Financial Officer (CFO) in Europe and also the CFO of Liberty Mutual's GRM West region. Since 2019, he has led our financial department in Europe, being responsible for controllership, planning, analysis and reporting, financial operations, investments, procurement and financial transformation projects.

Prior to joining Liberty, Antonio held various positions with international responsibility in multinational insurance companies, global audit and consulting firms.

As Product Leader, José Luis is responsible for leveraging Liberty's global scale to develop innovative, simple and customisable products that meet the needs of each customer, as well as designing and executing pricing, underwriting and reinsurance strategies.

José Luis joined Liberty Mutual in 2015 as Managing Director of the Liberty International strategy team, working with the President of that business unit in defining the international strategy as well as with local operations on different strategic projects. He subsequently, assumed the roles of Chief Transformation Officer and Strategy & Transformation Leader for Liberty in Europe, leading the integration of all operations in the Western Europe region into one operation. Prior to Liberty Mutual, he worked as COO & Strategy Director and member of the Management Committee of a multinational company specialised in claims management. He also previously worked as a strategy consultant at Bain & Company.

He holds a degree in Civil Engineering from the Universidade da Coruña. He also studied an MBA at the Darden School of Business (University of Virginia) with a scholarship from the Pedro Barrié de la Maza Foundation. He is currently studying the PADE program (Senior Management Program) at IESE Business School.

Sylvia is the Risk Leader and is responsible for ensuring the protection company, policyholders and all stakeholders' interests by implementing and overseeing the compliance framework to yield to all statutory and regulatory requirements. 

Sylvia transferred to Liberty Insurance following the acquisition of Quinn Insurance and has been part of the company for 16 years now.   

She has held several key senior management positions covering Claims, Private Lines and Finance Functions.  

Before joining Quinn/Liberty, Sylvia worked as a Financial Controller/General Manager in the media sector and a Finance Manager with an international reinsurance company. Sylvia is a Chartered Accountant with a Bachelor of Business Studies and Diploma in Insurance.  

Sylvia is a Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) member and loves traditional Irish music.  

Alexandre Ramos has largely worked in the field of Information Technology. Prior to joining Liberty Seguros, Alexandre was at the forefront of Altice Portugal, and has managed Lusitânia Seguros and Nseguros's I.T. sectors. Alexandre was also a part of Axan’s Iberian I.T. region, where he worked as a Multinational Computing consultant.

Alexandre has quickly embraced all challenges posed by the insurance industry due to his extensive understanding of the Portuguese insurance sector, where he has worked for the past 20 years. His extensive knowledge makes it easier to implement agile and effective ways to the day-to-day operations of the organisation.

Alexandre enjoys basketball and tries to play it on a regular basis. He enjoys reading biographies of noteworthy individuals as well as books on professional efficiency, leadership, and time management.

Paloma is Liberty's current Compliance Leader and brings substantial expertise from the Directorate General of Insurance and Pension Funds (DGSFP), where she held various roles including Head of the Area of Colleges of Supervisors and Financial Conglomerates in the Subdirectorate General of Solvency, Coordinator of the ORSA Panel, and member of the corporate governance working group.
Paloma has a degree in Law and in Economic and Business Sciences from the Universidad Pontificia de Comillas (ICADE).  
Paloma originates from the city of León and has three daughters. Paloma likes music and plays the guitar in her free time. 

Ken Deane is the Actuarial Leader for Liberty in Europe. Before assuming this role five years ago, Ken managed P&C Reserving and Reporting.

Ken has a BA in Actuarial & Financial Studies from University College Dublin and a Master's Degree in Actuarial Management from Cass Business School in London.  

He is a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries in the U.K. and an Irish Society of Actuaries member. 
Ken has worked in various actuarial roles in consultancy and the insurance industry in Ireland and the U.K. for over 15 years.

Before joining Liberty, he worked as an independent actuarial consultant and held reserve and capital roles for Aviva in Ireland and Direct Line Group in the U.K..  

Marco is Liberty’s Strategy & Transformation Leader responsible for Liberty’s Strategy, PMO, Marketing, Customer Experience, Digital and Communications areas.

Marco joined Liberty in 2012 in the U.S. working in Product Management before moving to support Liberty’s global operations on the GRM Strategy team.  He worked in Thailand, Malaysia, and Brazil before joining the European team to lead the Strategy & PMO team and then the entire Strategy & Transformation area.

Marco grew up in Washington, D.C. and attended Tufts University outside Boston, Massachusetts.  He currently lives in Madrid, Spain with his wife and newborn daughter and enjoys traveling, playing basketball, and spending time with family and friends.

Ana is Liberty’s Chief Counsel for Global Retail Markets in Europe. Ana has over 18 years of experience as counsel in Liberty Seguros, and six years as the Corporate Legal Department Manager.

Ana has been working as the Corporate Legal Department Manager and as a member of Chief Counsel in Europe over the past four years. Ana obtained her degree in Law from the Complutense University of Madrid (Spain) and is a member of the Madrid Bar Association.

Ana enjoys hiking, reading and spending time with her family.
